Overview 

 The 3U VPX backplane module comprises of a six-slot architecture that includes two (2) dedicated 3U VPX slots, one (1) VITA-62 compliant power supply slot, two (2) custom PSU slots, and one (1) custom RF connector slot.

Key functional capabilities include a high-performance x4 PCIe link for primary inter-module communication, supplemented by 1GbE, RS-422 UART, and dual-redundant MIL-STD-1553B channels for external field interfacing. To ensure seamless subsystem interoperability, the backplane integrates active signal conditioning, translating LVTTL GPIOs to RS-422 levels for PSU power management and Pulse Per Second (PPS) synchronization. Additionally, a dedicated 32-line GPIO bank facilitates high-density control between the VPX slots and RF slot. System health and diagnostics are managed via independent JTAG chains, Ethernet, LVDS, and a I²C bus.

This architecture is supported by a dual-isolated 28 8V power system: aDC± primary source drives a 3U VPX PSU to generate regulated +12V, +5V, and +3.3V rails powering the VPX slots and RF module in alignment with VITA 46, while a secondary source supplies dual power modules delivering constant isolated +28V to an on-board 10-pin connector for powering the external electronics, ensuring maximum electrical isolation and redundancy for critical subsystems
