3U VPX 3-Channel 1.1GSPS IF Receiver and 1-Channel 4.4GSPS Waveform Generator

Overview

The 3U VPX digital receiver module is a high-performance signal processing engine designed to handle high IF operations and generate IF waveforms for RADAR applications. The module has high speed ADCs and DACs to perform these functions and high speed IO interfaces to transfer the digitized data to the signal processing chain.

Waveform Generator:
A single-channel IF waveform generator samples at 4.4GSPS, producing IF frequencies from 1.2 to 1.4GHz and supporting both single-tone and LFM waveforms with a maximum instantaneous bandwidth of 20MHz.

Digital Receiver:
The module has three-channel IF receiver chain, which handles IF frequencies of 1.2 to 1.4GHz with an instantaneous bandwidth of 20MHz. The digital receiver signal processing chain includes integrated gain, phase calibration, pre-processing stages such as digital down conversion, pulse
compression and FFT computations. The digital receiver is capable of handling an IQ bandwidth of up to 8.5Gbps. Clocking is provided by a low-noise PLL fed by an external source such as OCXO that generates the required local clocks for the waveform generator and receiver.

Other Interfaces:
The 3U VPX digital receiver module has high-speed interfaces like x4 PCIe,10G SERDES links to transfer the processed IQ data to the signal processor. The module can also support DMA engines for achieving higher bandwidth to move the processed base-band data to the host signal processor. It further supports RS422 UART ports for low-level debugging. The module offers up to 4GB DDR4 memory for IQ data buffering and waveform storage. In addition, the module hosts non-volatile memories like 256MB of QSPI NOR Flash, 512KB of MRAM and a 4KB EEPROM. The module is powered by +5V and +3.3V from VPX backplane and generates all the necessary internal supplies. It hosts voltage and thermal sensors for health monitoring and BIT implementations. Thermal management relies on conduction cooling within a 1-inch slot, and a wedge-lock mechanism secures the module mechanically
